Purpose of the Event

We are seeking to raise funds in support of our principal charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and for our "Project 100" initiative, to construct new female changing facilities at Horn Park, (of which there are currently none), for use by the local community.

About Charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY)

Every week in the UK 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. CRY seeks to prevent sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research and offers support to bereaved families.

We here at Old Colfeians, in collaboration with our friends at Blackheath Rugby Club, offer an annual weekend of cardiac screening for over 200 young people in our local communities. However, this does not come cheap and a number of the beneficiaries of this screening struggle to meet the cost. We therefore seek to independently finance this screening. We are proud and relieved to know that through our joint efforts a number of individuals have been identified at risk and remedial actions have been taken to avert further tragedy taking place.

If you would like to know more about CRY then please go to their website at: [email protected] If you wish to donate directly in support of our local joint initiative then please go to: c-r-y.org.uk/anthony-fitzgerald/

Project 100

In recent years we have seen significant participation growth in womens sport not least, football, rugby and cricket.

As we seek to encourge young people and adults to lead healthier lives we look to play our part by encouraging participation in the various sports that we offer here at Horn Park. We are seeing ever increasing numbers of young women take up various sports with us and as this welcome revolution takes place there is a need to upgrade and provide suitable facilities and infrastructure. We therefore launched "Project 100" with the aim of completing the first phase of our redevelopment plan, the construction of a new changing room block with associated facilities, by the end of 2025. This will provide a significant step forward enabling us to offer womens team sports in parallel with mens. We have made good progress, gaining planning permission and finding over 90% of the funds required. However, we need to push further to raise the balance of funds and thereafter support further phases of our development plan. A percentage of the funds raised today will go towards achieving our goals.

Colfeians Grounds Limited

Colfeians Grounds Limited is the umbrella company responsible for managing and maintaining the grounds and facilitities and raising funds in support of the associated costs. This is done in part through hiring some of the sports pitches and facilities and also the various function rooms and social areas. If you are looking to hire pitches or hold an event then you can find details at: hornpark.co.uk
