Better use of data is vital if governments, the public sector and public purpose organisations are to help people. There are teams in lots of these organisations showing the way and trying to do things differently. Data Bites aims to put good work on the record for us all to learn from, provide a space for people in and around government to discuss data (and more), and bring what data can do for us to life in a way everyone - inside and beyond data and digital professions - can appreciate.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) is developing an Office for Public Service Innovation (OPSI) to transform public services through data-driven innovation, cross-sector collaboration, and community engagement. Public Digital is supporting the LCRCA to design OPSI as a service organisation that will meet the needs of its users. Our work is focusing on how OPSI might reduce the friction around data sharing and collaboration and develop its offering through test and learn approaches.

This is the first-ever Data Bites to be held outside London, and we’re delighted to be heading to Liverpool to hear from some brilliant projects in the north-west.

Speakers include:

  • Adam Drage, Assistant Director of Innovation, Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, on the Merseycare Children and Young People's Dashboard and Michael Hanks, Principal Data Scientist, Social Finance
  • Dr Emily Rempel, Research Fellow in Public Participation and Data Practices at the University of Liverpool, on the Liverpool City Region Resident’s Assembly on Data and AI Innovation
  • Ste Sharples, Assistant Director - ICT, Digital, Data and Digital Governance, St Helens Council, on their AI chatbot, Helen
  • Open Data Manchester
